About
Biography
Al Landis is a Republican politician serving as the State Senator for Ohio's 31st Senate District, encompassing all of Tuscarawas, Wayne, and Muskingum Counties, along with parts of Stark and Guernsey Counties. Born and raised in Dover, Ohio, he has dedicated much of his life to public service and community engagement.
Before entering politics, Landis spent 33 years at Greer Steel Company, where he held positions as an Inside Sales Representative, District Representative, and in Sales and Marketing Management. After retiring in 2009, he transitioned into public service, serving four terms in the Ohio House of Representatives from 2011 to 2018. During his tenure, he chaired the Energy & Natural Resources Committee for four years and served as Vice Chair of the Armed Forces & Veterans Affairs Committee for another four years.
In 2022, Landis was elected to the Ohio State Senate, succeeding Jay Hottinger. He assumed office on January 3, 2023, and his current term is set to end on December 31, 2026.

Throughout his career, Landis has been recognized for his contributions to economic development and community service. In 2025, he received the Ally of Economic Development Award from the Ohio chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Parks for his work on legislation that has bolstered Ohio's economic development.
Landis is a life member of the National Rifle Association , a member of the Ohio Farm Bureau, and the Tuscarawas County Chamber of Commerce. He also serves on Dover Chemical’s Citizens Advisory Panel.
He and his wife, Debby, have two adult children and five grandchildren.
