Biography

Angela Alsobrooks is a lifelong Marylander who was elected to the United States Senate in 2024, representing Maryland as a Democrat. She is the first Black senator elected from the state and the third African-American woman to serve in the U.S. Senate.

Born and raised in Camp Springs, Maryland, Alsobrooks has dedicated her career to public service, focusing on championing working families and advocating for safer communities. She believes in providing every Marylander with economic pathways to wealth and ensuring that children can pursue their dreams without limitations.

Education and Political Experience

• Education:

  • Bachelor of Arts in Public Policy and Afro-American Studies from Duke University
  • Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland School of Law

• Political Experience:

  • Assistant State’s Attorney: Began her career as the first full-time Assistant State’s Attorney handling domestic violence cases in Prince George’s County.
  • Prince George’s County State’s Attorney : Elected as the youngest and first woman to serve in this role. During her tenure, violent crime in the county fell by 50%.
  • Prince George’s County Executive : Focused on generating economic opportunities, becoming one of the top job creators in the state within two years.
  • U.S. Senator : Elected to the U.S. Senate in 2024, defeating former Republican Governor Larry Hogan.

Alsobrooks has been actively involved in community outreach programs and is an advocate for affordable housing and environmental sustainability. She is also a member of the Congressional Black Caucus and the Congressional Caucus for Women's Issues.
