Biography

Angus King, born on March 31, 1944, in Alexandria, Virginia, is an Independent U.S. Senator representing Maine. He was first elected to the Senate in 2012 and has since been re-elected twice, most recently in 2024. Prior to his tenure in the Senate, King served as the 72nd Governor of Maine from 1995 to 2003. Throughout his political career, he has been recognized for his commitment to bipartisanship and pragmatic problem-solving. In the Senate, King has focused on issues such as national security, energy policy, and veterans' affairs. He currently serves on several key committees, including the Armed Services Committee, where he chairs the Subcommittee on Strategic Forces, and the Energy and Natural Resources Committee, where he chairs the Subcommittee on National Parks.
