Biography

Danny K. Davis, born on September 6, 1941, in Parkdale, Arkansas, is a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives, serving Illinois's 7th Congressional District since 1997. The district encompasses much of western Chicago, including the Loop, and several inner western suburbs such as Bellwood, Oak Park, and River Forest.

Before his congressional tenure, Davis was deeply involved in Chicago's political landscape. He served as Alderman of the 29th Ward from 1979 to 1990, becoming the first political independent elected on the West Side in the modern era. Following this, he was a member of the Cook County Board of Commissioners from 1990 to 1996.

In Congress, Davis has been a steadfast advocate for civil rights, healthcare reform, and education. He has played a pivotal role in passing significant legislation, including the Garrett Lee Smith Memorial Act, the Second Chance Act, the Jackie Walorski Memorial Act, and the Sickle Cell Education and Treatment Act.

Davis is married to Vera G. Davis, and they have two sons, Jonathan and the late Stacey. He is a member and Deacon of the New Galilee M.B. Church.
