Biography

Representative Young Kim, born on October 18, 1962, in Incheon, South Korea, is a Republican serving California's 40th Congressional District, which encompasses parts of Orange, San Bernardino, and Riverside counties. She immigrated to the United States in 1975, settling first in Guam and later in Hawaii, where she completed high school. Kim earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Southern California. Before entering politics, she worked as a financial analyst and owned a small business in the clothing industry. Kim also served as Director of Community Relations and Asian Affairs for former U.S. Representative Ed Royce for 21 years.

In 2014, Kim was elected to the California State Assembly, becoming the first Korean American Republican woman to serve in the state legislature. She was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2020, representing California's 39th District, and was re-elected in 2022 to represent the 40th District following redistricting. Kim is one of the first Korean American women to serve in Congress.
