Biography
Andy Levin is an American attorney and politician who served as the U.S. Representative for Michigan's 9th congressional district from 2019 to 2023. Born on August 10, 1960, in Detroit, Michigan, he is the son of Sander Levin, a former congressman, and the nephew of Carl Levin, a former U.S. Senator. Levin earned a Bachelor of Arts from Williams College, a Master of Arts from the University of Michigan, and a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School. Before entering politics, he was a union organizer, human rights activist, and green energy entrepreneur. He co-founded Lean & Green Michigan, a program that finances clean energy building improvements, and served as the acting director of the Michigan Department of Energy, Labor, and Economic Growth. In 2018, he was elected to Congress, succeeding his father, and was re-elected in 2020. In 2022, he lost the Democratic primary to fellow incumbent Haley Stevens.
