Biography
Bride Rose Sweeney is a Democratic member of the Ohio House of Representatives, representing the 16th District in Western Cuyahoga County. She was first elected in November 2018, becoming the first woman to represent her district at the Statehouse and the youngest Democratic member of the 133rd Ohio General Assembly. In the 2024 general election, she secured re-election with 60.7% of the vote, defeating Republican challenger Daniel Harrington.
As Ranking Member of the Ohio House Finance Committee, Representative Sweeney plays a pivotal role in shaping the state's $90 billion operating budget. She is also the lead Democratic sponsor of the bipartisan Fair School Funding Plan, which became law on July 1, 2021, aiming to overhaul Ohio's school funding formula and provide nearly $2 billion for public education and job training.
In 2023, she was recognized as the "Most Bipartisan Lawmaker" by Cleveland.com, highlighting her collaborative approach in a Republican supermajority legislature. Additionally, she has received awards from organizations such as the Greater Cleveland Council on Small Enterprises, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association , the Ohio Education Association, the Ohio Federation of Teachers, and the Ohio Election Officials Association for her legislative work.
