Biography
David Trone is an American politician and businessman who served as the U.S. Representative for Maryland's 6th Congressional District from 2019 to 2025. Born on September 21, 1955, in Cheverly, Maryland, he grew up on a chicken and hog farm. His mother was a grade school teacher, and his father was a World War II veteran and member of the U.S. Army Reserves. The family faced financial challenges, leading to the loss of the farm to bankruptcy. Despite these hardships, Trone pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor’s degree from Furman University and an MBA from the Wharton School of Business. In 2018, he was elected to Congress, succeeding John Delaney. During his tenure, Trone focused on issues such as the opioid epidemic, criminal justice reform, mental health, and funding for medical research. He served on the House Appropriations Committee, Budget Committee, and the Joint Economic Committee. In 2024, Trone announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate to succeed retiring Senator Ben Cardin but was defeated in the Democratic primary by Angela Alsobrooks. ,
