Biography
Elaine Luria is an American politician and retired U.S. Navy officer who served as the U.S. Representative for Virginia's 2nd Congressional District from 2019 to 2023. Born on August 15, 1975, in Birmingham, Alabama, she graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science in Physics and History. Luria served in the Navy for 20 years, rising to the rank of Commander and commanding Assault Craft Unit TWO. After retiring from the Navy in 2017, she was elected to Congress in 2018, defeating incumbent Scott Taylor. During her tenure, she was known for her bipartisan approach and focus on defense and veterans' affairs. In 2022, she lost her re-election bid to Republican Jen Kiggans. Following her congressional service, Luria joined the board of directors for BAE Systems, Inc. in May 2023.
