Biography
Dr. Herb Conaway Jr., born on January 30, 1963, in Trenton, New Jersey, is a lifelong resident of Burlington County. The son of a teacher and a nurse, he was inspired by his parents' dedication to service. After completing his education, Dr. Conaway served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force Medical Corps at McGuire Air Force Base, where he worked as a general medical officer and assistant director of the primary care clinic. Following his military service, he practiced primary care medicine and served as a clinical professor at an inner-city community hospital. In 1998, Dr. Conaway was elected to the New Jersey General Assembly, representing the 7th Legislative District for 25 years. In 2024, he was elected as the U.S. Representative for New Jersey's 3rd Congressional District, becoming the first Black physician with voting privileges to serve in Congress.
