Biography
Kathleen Maura Rice, born on February 15, 1965, in Manhattan, New York, is an American lawyer and politician who served as the U.S. Representative for New York's 4th congressional district from 2015 to 2023. Raised in Garden City, Long Island, she is one of ten siblings. Rice graduated from Garden City High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts from the Catholic University of America in 1987, followed by a Juris Doctor from Touro Law Center in 1991.
Before entering Congress, Rice served as the Nassau County District Attorney from 2006 to 2014, becoming the first woman to hold that position. She was recognized for her efforts to combat drunk driving, leading to a statewide overhaul of DWI laws and Long Island's first DWI-related murder convictions. Additionally, she focused on public corruption, resulting in significant government reforms and the conviction of numerous officials from both parties.
