Biography
Mike Johnson, born on January 30, 1972, in Shreveport, Louisiana, is a Republican politician serving as the 56th Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and the representative for Louisiana's 4th congressional district. He was first elected to Congress in 2016 and has been re-elected in subsequent terms. On October 25, 2023, Johnson was unanimously elected as Speaker of the House, becoming the second-fastest person to assume the role in U.S. history.
Before his tenure in Congress, Johnson served in the Louisiana House of Representatives from 2015 to 2017. He has a background in constitutional law, having spent nearly two decades litigating high-profile cases nationwide. Johnson has also been a college professor, conservative talk radio host, and media spokesperson for major religious liberty organizations.
The eldest son of a Shreveport firefighter who was critically injured in the line of duty, Johnson learned the values of hard work, honor, and sacrifice early in life. He and his wife, Kelly, a licensed pastoral counselor and former school teacher, have been married since 1999 and have four children. They reside in Bossier Parish, Louisiana.
